Black and White photography, exploring a mix of documentary, candid and more expressive images.
Sometimes black and white photography can take away the distraction of colour in the captured world. It allows the eye to see other details that would be normally missed. A different way of seeing reality than with our eyes, while keeping the shapes and the look of the world intact.

Editorial portraits
ETHEREAL.
These are my first experimentations with more editorial photography. I had this idea of using coloured tulle in a foggy silver birch wood. This for me is when I really started thinking of colours and texture as my imagery. The aim is to show the ethereal feeling that the contact with nature can give.
This project shows my experimentations in different sectors of photography and my efforts to test and learn different skills to further my knowledge.

Myself.
Using lighting to create different effects.
Exploring different versions of the subjects through photography. This is part of my process to find my creative voice.
In the first image, I used water on a glass surface and a harsh light to capture this portrait. This illuminated the drops of water on the glass to create this blurring effect.
The second image uses a projector reflection of this particular pattern I drew. The objective was to shade the subject - instead of feeling closer to the intimacy of the subject, there is a distance that can be perceived as the image is observed.
The third photograph uses a red LED lamp to accentuate the red of the subject’s top all over the room. I then played around with the adjustment setting (saturation, contrast, hue and more) to change to pointing the red light in only specific areas. I constructed the set to show the idea of being trapped in our own selves - sometimes overwhelmed by emotions and stress.

Capturing lights through different environments.
Lights.
At the beginning of my photography journey, I was taking pictures with my camera in random places, at random times, randomly.
The first image was shot from the car of the lights of a town in the distant night, at high speed. This allowed me to play with motion in an image and focus. I tried to slow the shutter speed to capture the trails of the lights in the distance.
The second image is the reflection of car lights through raindrops. Again I used a slow shutter speed to capture the lights and blur the environment around them.
This is just some experimentation I did when I was younger at the start of my creative journey towards university projects which is allowing me to forge my voice in my practice.

These photographs are my first real attempts at adding my creativity to landscape photography and understanding how I’d make the medium my own. It was one of the first times I actually thought of the end results as I took the images with a camera. I then added some extra texture with post-production and that’s where I gave it my own touch.
This was a fascinating experience as I had never thought of landscape photography as a serious art. I was like many people, I used to take pictures of my surroundings just for the memories or because they were cool, not with a proper camera and with the intention of capturing a moment.
I titled this section Natural vs. Layering as these three images showed me the difference between creating pieces that are all about the moment and others that use the moment to create something more abstract, layered with different feelings and perceptions.
